Davao City - Mayor Sara Duterte signed on January 31, 2011 Executive Order No. 2 creating Task Force Drainage to be headed by her office and by Acting City Administrator Zuleika Lopez as Co-chair.
Under said EO, it is observed that “past efforts to address the perennial flood problem in the city and the latest inspection and examination of the flooded areas bring to light the need to look into the state of the drainage system all over the city to fight the flood problem”.
Designated as TF Vice-Chair, City Engineer Jose Gestuveo Jr. said earlier that he requested for “additional manpower” to insure the successful execution of the essential local flood control measures as mandated under said EO.
Engr. Gestuveo’s Urban Drainage Engineering Unit (UDEU) takes the lead in the implementation of the TF’s functions in lieu of the defunct Drainage Maintenance Unit (DMU) then headed by Ret. Col. Yusoph Jimlani which Mayor Duterte dissolved early this year.
With the ever-worsening floods resulting to “inconvenience” to the people as pointed out in the EO, among the duties outlined include the TF to undertake and conduct continuing inspection, studies and examination of the flood problem and the current state of the drainage system within the city;
Members of the Drainage team include the City Planning and Development Office, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, General Services Office, and Barangay Cultural Community Affairs Division.
